Art on the Brain: BIST Exhibit Highlights Life After Brain Injury

Earlier this June, the Brain Injury Society of Toronto (BIST) hosted its annual art exhibit, Art on the Brain, and Advocai was honoured to be a proud sponsor of this powerful and inspiring event. For just over two weeks, the Cedar Ridge Creative Centre showcased a vibrant collection of artwork created by more than 50 talented artists living with the effects of brain injury.

Watch CTV’s coverage of the event to see how these artists are telling their stories through mixed media.

Each piece told a story of perseverance, identity, healing, and growth. The exhibit served not only as a creative outlet for these individuals, but also as a reminder of the resilience and strength found within the brain injury community.

At Advocai, we know that navigating life after a traumatic brain injury can feel overwhelming. The emotional, physical, and financial toll it takes impacts not only the individual, but their loved ones as well, which is why the work that BIST does is so important.

BIST is dedicated to supporting survivors of Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) and their families through a wide range of programs, services, and advocacy. Their mission is to build a compassionate community that fosters understanding, connection, and recovery; one that works to “unmask” brain injury and celebrate the people behind the diagnosis.

We’re proud to stand alongside organizations like BIST that shine a light on ABI and the people affected by it and we remain committed to advocating for better care, support, and understanding across the board.
