About John-Paul Zeni
I grew up in a small town outside Toronto before attending Western University where I studied business at the Ivey School of Business and graduated on the Dean’s Honour List. During university I worked a variety of physical labour jobs for local businesses including construction contractors and a chemical manufacturer. During this time, I also started my first business (landscaping) and volunteered as a sailing instructor for paraplegic and quadriplegic sailors in Martin 16 accessible sailboats.
Shortly after I graduated from Ivey in 2005, I co-founded a digital marketing/publishing start-up in the automotive and government regulatory industry which I operated and then sold in 2015.
In 2012, I enrolled at the University of Toronto Law School - Canada’s top ranked law school program (top 10 ranked in North America and top 20 globally). In law school, I worked full-time, won the Gowlings Technology Law Prize and was a student with Distinction Standing.
In 2015, I graduated law school, sold my digital marketing/publishing business, joined a Bay Street personal injury law firm, and, most importantly, started a family.
While working on Bay Street, I practiced personal injury, class action and medical malpractice law. I advocated for clients - who were exclusively the victims of negligence - at the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Ontario Court of Justice and Licence Appeal Tribunal (LAT).
In 2020, I co-founded Advocai LLP with Christine Morano with the goal of advocating for victims of negligence and building a law firm based on the principles of integrity, compassion, honesty, teamwork, courage and respect. As a result of our advocacy work, we regularly receive referrals from our peers (other lawyers) for personal injury cases as well as negligence, neglect and abuse cases involving older adults.
I now represent clients of all ages and from all walks of life. At our firm, we welcome all clients - including those from marginalized and disenfranchised communities.
I currently represent clients who have suffered injuries as a result of: motor vehicle accidents; pedestrian v. car accidents; motorcycle accidents; bicycle accidents; slip and falls / trip and falls; occupiers’ liability claims; medical malpractice claims; mass torts; dental malpractice; battery; wrongful death; long-term care / nursing home negligence, neglect and abuse cases; as well as advocating for clients who have significant accident benefits claims or Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability and Critical Illness benefits denied.
My clients have suffered a wide variety of injuries including: traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, fractures, concussions, joint dislocations/separations, tendon/ligament tears, bed sores/pressure sores, animal bites, psychological impairments (PTSD, Depression, etc.) as well as wrongful deaths.
In my spare time, you’ll find me spending time with my wife and daughters, playing hockey, skiing, scuba diving, coaching girls house league soccer, watching sports or reading sci-fi.
